Cardiff Metropolitan University is in the capital city of Wales and has three campuses. There are about 12,000 students from 140 different countries presently enrolled at the university. It was first started in 1865 as the Cardiff School of Art and Design. In 2011, it broke away from the University of Wales and became its own university.

The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide named Cardiff Metropolitan University the Welsh University of the Year for 2021. The University also moved up 33 spots in the rankings. This is the biggest jump the school has ever had in this guide, and it is the third biggest rise of any university in the UK this year. The award for Welsh University of the Year 2021 was given to Cardiff Met because it did well in this year’s National Student Survey.
In a recent survey, Cardiff Metropolitan University ranked in the top 40 universities in the UK for both satisfaction with the quality of teaching, and the overall student experience.
Cardiff Metropolitan University is known for its Art and Design programmes, which did very well in the latest Research Excellence Framework. Sports at Cardiff also has a National Indoor Athletics Centre, and 15 of its former students competed in the London Olympics in 2012. The University also works closely with businesses and international universities like the Samsung Art & Design Institute, the International College of Business and Technology in Sri Lanka, and the London School of Commerce.
In the REF 2021, nearly 88% of the university’s research results in sport were either Internationally Excellent, or World Leading. In Art and Design, 83% of Cardiff Met’s impacts were World Leading, which put it fifth in the UK. The rest were Internationally Excellent.

When they finished their undergraduate studies, 94% of recent graduates were either working or going to school for more education.
