In recognition of Plymouth’s global standing as a leader in marine and maritime education, and research, the city was given the Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2012. Additionally, 11 programmes offered by Plymouth University were recently ranked among the top ten in the UK for the level of satisfaction they elicit in their students. The city also holds the 11th spot in the UK for being one of the most affordable places to receive an education. Education

It is the only university established after 1992 to have its own medical school, and it maintains robust links with a number of other educational establishments, and organisations in the south west region. The past few years have seen significant growth and improvement across many different departments, most notably the library and the student union, as well as the faculties of Health, Education and Society, and Marine Science. The degree programmes offered by the University of Plymouth in Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Geography and Environmental Science, as well as Art and Design, all rate highly on a national scale.

Important university rankings include being in the top 25 in the UK for teaching quality. International students who meet the requirements can apply for one of a wide variety of scholarships offered by the University of Plymouth.

Setting

According to the most recent People & Planet Green League, the University of Plymouth is recognised as one of the best green universities in the UK. This ranking places it among the top 40 modern universities around the world, as determined by the Times Higher Education ‘100 Under 50’ list.

In all, 78% of the submissions made by the University of Plymouth for the REF 2021 were rated as 4* or 3* (internationally exceptional), which is an increase from the score of approximately 63% earned in the REF 2014 that was comparable.

Plymouth is a city located on the south coast of England. It has a long history as a port and shipbuilding city, and is currently home to the largest naval base in Western Europe. Plymouth also has a rich maritime heritage. The city centre is home to a large number of nightclubs, bars, restaurants, and theatres, and the city’s proximity to the coast makes it an extremely popular destination for a variety of water sports, particularly surfing during the warmer months, and boating in general.
